It was a nice day in New Bark town, the flying pokemon were chirping, and the water pokemon were swimming happily in the pond. Nothing about today was-

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

Quinn moaned, turning over in her bed. She covered her head with her pillow and slammed her hand onto her alarm clock to turn it off, smiling when silence took over. Her light brown hair covered most of her face and shoulders, tickling her nose and making her sneeze. Quinn sighed, blowing hair away from her mouth and sitting up.

“Time to wake up.” She muttered.

After a hot shower and a change of clothes, Quinn walked down to her small kitchen and poured herself some cereal. Quinn was the only one living in her house, her parents disappeared when she was ten years old because of an explosion that happened in Ecruteak City. Shs has lived without her parents for five years, five lonely years without anyone to call mom or dad. She wasn’t allowed to leave the town until she was sixteen because of having no parents and the town needed to know that she was capable of taking care of herself. She turned sixteen in five months, which was too long for her. Professor Elm made an exception for Quinn and he let her get a pokemon a few months early so she could see Johto.

Quinn slipped on her running shoes and grabbed her backpack, running out the door with her baseball cap in her hand. She grabbed her bike from the side of the house and ran down the path, leaping onto the bike and coasting down the road.

“Hey Quinn!” A voice chimed, she sighed.

Cai pedaled up next to her with his bike, his black hair was messy as always. Cai would always bully Quinn when she was younger because of the loss of her parents, then all of a sudden, he tried being nice to her and started flirting with her. Quinn would never accept him because of the five years of torment she suffered through.

“Are you getting a pokemon from Professor Elm too?” He asked, smiling at Quinn. She ignored him and continued biking, adjusting her baseball cap.

They soon made it to Professor Elm’s lab, Quinn parked her bike near the door and entered the lab with Cai trailing behind her. Quinn knew the way to the lab like the back of her hand, she would deal with her problems by talking with Professor Elm and the pokemon he was taking care of. Cai pushed past Quinn, taking her out of memory lane. He opened up the door and entered the lab without warning, causing a big crash to sound though the lab.

Quinn walked in and saw Professor Elm picking up bits of glass, she bent down and helped him without saying a word. He nodded a thanks and put the pieces of glass in the garbage, Quinn accidentally cut her palm with one but hid the blood behind her back.

“So, you two are here for pokemon?” Professor Elm asked, the two teens nodded. “I have three choices for you, choose carefully.” He gestured to the three pokeballs sitting on the table.

Cai smiled and quickly swiped the one with the Totodile, smirking at Quinn. She walked up slowly to the table and gazed at the remaining two pokeballs, holding a Cyndaquil and a Chikorita. Professor Elm walked up to her to whisper into her ear.

“You can bring them both out and see which one you want.” She nodded.

Quinn grabbed both of the pokeballs and threw them up in the air, the two pokemon popped out and stood in front of her. Quinn leaned down at placed a hand on the Chikorita’s head, petting it softly. He smiled and tickled Quinn’s hethly palm, making her laugh.

The easiest choice is the Chikorita, since Cai has a water type pokemon. Quinn thought, gazing down at the two pokemon. But I just want to check to make sure.

She turned to the Cyndaquil, she reached out to him.

“Ah, I wouldn't do that Quinn he-” Professor Elm warned.

The Cyndaquil growled and opened his mouth, revealing sharp teeth and biting down on Quinn’s hand. She flinched slightly.

“-bites.” Professor Elm looked at Quinn with concern, but she smiled slightly.

The Cyndaquil let go of her hand and gazed at Quinn with his head tilted as if thinking, 'why aren't you crying?’ Quinn reached out a again with the bitten hand, this time holding it palm out. He gazed at it before nuzzling her hand lightly, purring.

Quinn giggled. “I’ll take this one.”

“A fire against a water?” Cai spat. “A person with the right mind would’ve known that they should’ve chosen Chikorita.”

“Quinn can pick what she wants.” Professor Elm said, holding his hand up for peace. “Now that you two have chosen your pokemon, do you know where to go?” Quinn and Cai nodded.

“Cherrygrove City.” Cai said. “Then we can get a map and continue on our journey.”

Professor Elm nodded. “I hope you make the right choices on your quest and I give you the best of luck.”

Cai nodded and left the lab.

“Thank you Professor Elm.” Quinn said, he smiled.

“You’re welcome Quinn. Here.” He handed her his number. “If you ever have any questions, just call me.

Quinn nodded, trying to hold back tears. “Thank you again Professor Elm.” She hugged him tightly, nearly pushing him down.

He chuckled, hugging her back. “You’re welcome again Quinn.” He let go of her, placing a hand on each of her shoulders. “Now, go start your adventure.” She smiled and nodded.

    “Lets go Axel!”

He tilted his head before running after her, exiting the lab. When Quinn got outside, found found that Cai had already left for Cherrygrove City. She sighed before glancing over at Axel, he had somehow climbed up into her bike basket and was poking his nose out of it. She giggled before getting onto the blue bike, adjusting her baseball cap.

“Ready Axel?” Quinn asked, he nodded. “Let’s go!”

She pushed off of the building and started riding down the path, leaving New Bark Town.
